From Print to Pixels: My Journey to LinkedIn™ Expertise
Sometimes life comes full circle. My first steps in media were small: scribbling away for the East Tyrolean Messenger and Tiroler Tageszeitung. Back then, I had two passions: writing and music. No strategy. Just pure love for storytelling.
The Roots: Journalism, HTML, and a Blog
In the 90s, I got curious. Taught myself HTML. Built clunky websites on shaky dial-up connections. Turns out, editorial discipline translated well into digital. Years later, my blog cracked the DACH Top 100. SEO back then—and still today—loves good writing. No shortcuts.
Thousands of articles later, I became one of the best-known LinkedIn™ experts across DACH. And now, the Tiroler Tageszeitung, one of my first employers, featured me. Full circle indeed.
Lessons from the TT Interview
In their recent feature, the Tiroler Tageszeitung explored the evolving role of LinkedIn™. Here are three key takeaways that resonate with my journey:
„Ein gut gepflegtes LinkedIn-Profil kann einen großen Unterschied machen.“ [A well-maintained LinkedIn profile can make a big difference.]
Your LinkedIn™ profile isn’t just a digital business card. It’s your handshake, first impression, and billboard rolled into one. Whether you’re connecting with potential clients, partners, or employers—your profile sets the tone. A few tips I share often:
- Use a clear, friendly profile picture.
- Craft a headline that sells what you do, not just your job title.
- Keep your About section crisp, focused, and benefit-driven.
„LinkedIn wird heute von einer Vielzahl von Nutzergruppen verwendet, darunter Führungskräfte, Einzelunternehmer und Corporate Influencer.“ [Today, LinkedIn is used by a variety of user groups, including executives, entrepreneurs, and corporate influencers.]
Today, LinkedIn™ is no longer just for job hunters. CEOs, freelancers, marketers—everyone builds brands, relationships, and reach here. In my workshops, I often ask participants to rethink their LinkedIn™ goals: Are you there to hire? To sell? To share knowledge? Your strategy should match your mission.
„Obwohl LinkedIn keine Raketenwissenschaft ist, kann eine Schulung helfen, die Plattform effizienter zu nutzen.“ [Although LinkedIn isn’t rocket science, training can help use the platform more efficiently.]
Sure, LinkedIn™ isn’t rocket science. But knowing how the algorithm works, understanding content dynamics, and mastering storytelling in posts can dramatically shorten your learning curve. That’s why my 3×3 training at Media Campus Tirol on May 28th focuses exactly on these core areas: profile polish, content mastery, and networking finesse.
LinkedIn™ in 2025: What Matters Most
Today’s LinkedIn™ is a different beast from five years ago. Here’s what’s new and crucial:
- Videos rule: Short videos showcasing thought leadership outperform text-only updates.
- Real engagement wins: Comments and saves matter more than likes.
- Expertise over popularity: The platform rewards valuable content even from small accounts.
Tiroler Tageszeitung captured this shift beautifully, noting that LinkedIn™ aims to focus more on content relevance than follower numbers. This is a golden opportunity for B2B leaders and entrepreneurs: you don’t need to be famous, you need to be useful.
Looking Ahead
I’m grateful for this feature—and for the many miles between East Tyrol’s print pages and today’s digital arenas. Still writing. Still curious. And still hungry to help others build their digital presence with precision and authenticity.
