It’s a common interwebs habit.
Nobody has a guestbook on their homepage anymore. That’s a significant distinction between homepages and summit crosses. The latter still had summit books the last time I checked.
In the mid-nineties, there were neither blogs nor the term ‘blogs’ on the internet. Pioneers of the World Wide Web visited each other and let others know: I was here! Usually accompanied by entering their own URL in the hope of getting a return friendship visit.
I must admit, I like guestbooks. Not just out of nostalgia, because in the early days of the World Wide Web, they were not only an important form of communication but also in their interactive simplicity, in my humble opinion, the beginning of social media as we know it today.
Therefore, I would be delighted if you sign my guestbook. And I promise: I will visit your page too! Referrers don’t lie.
