Just imagine a stranger approaching you and handing you their business card without any introduction.

Yes, that’s exactly the equivalent of a connection request “from unkown” with no message. The quota used to be one message per ten requests, but now it’s going to drop even further, as LinkedIn™ limits the quota for free user to 5 200-character connection messages per month.
